In Rememberance…

It is with heavy hearts that we bring news that Master Chief (retired) Nick Ferro has crossed the bar. Fair Winds Master Chief, you will be missed.

MCPO Stanley “Nick” Ferro retired honorably after 42 years of service, one of the longest active duty terms of a Coast Guard enlisted member.  Over the course of his distinguished career as a Boatswains Mate, MCPO Ferro served on nine cutters, one of which was in Vietnam.  Additionally, he served 14 years (four tours) as a Command Enlisted Advisor (CEA), which included having the honor of serving as the first CEA ever designated at TRACEN Yorktown.  Although MCPO Ferro retired in 1992, he continued to be an extremely active and valuable member of TRACEN Yorktown and the Coast Guard community.  To his credit, he continued frequent visits to TRACEN Yorktown, listening and mentoring both staff members and countless “A” school students.  MCPO Ferro was an active member of the Yorktown Chief Petty Officer’s Association and Chief’s Mess, serving as a positive role model to new and seasoned Chiefs alike.  He was an active advocate for the large retiree community in the Tidewater area and was a key member of the Retiree Council.  He was a dedicated member of the local Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chapter where he worked diligently to support disabled veterans and also provided a wealth of information for service members transitioning from active duty.  MCPO Ferro dedicated over six decades of his life to serving his country and Coast Guard members.
